What is the Staff to Child Supervisory Ratio? There are at least two staff members present with each group (12 -14 campers) at all times durin the camp period. In addition, extra helpers CIT's are there for our younger camper group.
What Does a Typical Camp Day Look Like? Campers begin and end each day with a "cauldron". A circle gathering led by staff where everyone gets a chance to share something, a poem, a riddle, a joke, a song. These brief (30 minute) meetings help the campers build an ensemble that will strengthen our final performance. Then the morning begins with 45 min - 1 hour group rotations in which campers work with our professional teaching artists, in drama, music and dance. There's a 15 minute snack break mid-morning and then lunch at 12 noon followed by some free time at a nearby park. Afternoons are dedicated to visual arts and a special segment based on the camp theme. Final Cauldron is at 3:00 pm and the day ends at 3:30 pm with after care continuing until 5:30 pm.
When Does the Final Performance Take Place? Each session ends with a culminating performance that was developed with campers creative input. The performance is at 2:30 pm and parents are encouraged to attend. The performance will be live streamed so parents and friends around the globe can also enjoy the performance. There will be an exhibit in the gallery featuring camper's art work that they will take home at the end of the day.
My Child Doesn't Like Performing Is There A Place For Them at This Camp? We work with children of all abilities and dispositions and always find a way engage them. And it has been our experience, that some of the most reluctant performers become our best actors. Some campers may want to help or assist in technical areas instead of performing. Whatever the path, our staff is there to make sure that first and foremost this is a fun camp experience.
Do You Spend the Entire Day indoors? No. We frequently use the nearby public parks (Cavalier Trail and Big Chimneys) as our outdoor classroom for activities, and we always offer a little bit of free time to campers at the park so they can just enjoy some summer play.
Do You Provide Lunch and Snacks? No. Campers bring their own lunch and snacks. For those in after care we encourage packing two snacks, one for our morning break and one at the end of the day.
My Camper Has a Special Need (Food Allergy, Takes Medication, Behavioral Issue), How Do You Address These? We have a very thorough Health History form that you must fill out that helps us plan for their safety and well-being. If your camper has additional needs we recommend a phone call or setting up an appointment with our Camp Director, so we can ensure that we train staff to support them.
What Does After Care Consist of? We try to let the interests of the campers guide activities.... lots of games, sometimes a dance party in the theater. Usually there's a trip to the park if the weather permits. If you're going to pick up earlier than 5:30 pm, please let us know so we can make sure that your camper is ready at the theater.
