Creative Cauldron Announces 2017-18 Theatrical Season at ArtSpace Falls Church
Falls Church, VA – The 2017-18 Season will mark Creative Cauldron’s ninth year producing and presenting live theater and music at ArtSpace Falls Church. The season includes a diverse range of programming for adults and families alike. Highlighting the season will be a world premiere musical, Witch written by internationally produced duo Stephen Gregory Smith and Matt Conner. Witch is the fourth installment of Creative Cauldron’s five-year “Bold New Works for Intimate Stages” initiative. The season’s theatrical offerings are complemented by live music throughout the year by two concert series: the “Passport to the World Festival” and the “Summer Cabaret Series.” Tickets are on-sale now, and can be purchased by visiting www.creativecauldron.org or calling 703-436-9948. Creative Cauldron offers two flexible season pass options for performances throughout the season.

“The resilience and resistance of the feminine spirit burns through our 2017-18 season” says Producing Director Laura Connors Hull. “We follow the journeys of women who have made difficult bargains, plucky girls who have followed their own voices, and wise elders who have been demonized for exerting their power and influence.  We are excited about sharing these vivid and moving stories with our audience in our intimate venue.  This is a season that will be remembered.”

Creative Cauldron and fellow DC Area Theaters Join the Ghostlight Project

1/20/2017

Comments

On January 19th, 2017 at 5:30pm in each time zone across the country communities gathered outside of theaters to create a "light" for dark times ahead, and to make, or renew, a pledge to stand for and protect the values of inclusion, participation, and compassion for everyone regardless of race, class, religion, country of origin, immigration status, (dis)ability, age, gender identity, or sexual orientation.

Citizens came together outside of their local theaters with their own lights and lit them together to shine bright in the darkness. Then each theater lit their own ghostlight, that will remain lit, to symbolize their pledge to be a safe space for all.
"When our theaters go dark at the end of the night, we turn on a “ghostlight” - offering visibility and safety for all who might enter. This is our theatrical tradition - and our inspiration. Like a ghostlight, the light we create tonight will represent our commitment to safeguard - it will symbolize safe harbor for our values and for any among us who find ourselves targeted because of race, class, religion, country of origin, immigration status, (dis)ability, gender identity, sexual identity or dissident actions in the coming years. And our  lights  will  also  symbolize  hope –a  belief  that  through  our  actions  change  is possible." Laura Connors Hull, Producing Director Creative Cauldron

Creative Cauldron then hosted a community forum around their ghostlight to discuss the issues those in the community are facing and concerns over whats to come. Many people made their own pledges that were posted just outside the theater entrance.
Other participating theaters in the DC area included Folger Theatre, Mosaic Theater Company of DC, Shakespeare Theatre Company, Theater J, and Convergence Theatre in Bethesda.

Creative Cauldron Presents Scorching Musical Blues in the Night
February 9 – March 5, 2017 at ArtSpace Falls Church

Falls Church, VA – Creative Cauldron presents the Tony-Award Nominated Musical Blues in the Night, directed by Creative Cauldron’s Artistic Associate, Matt Conner. Set in a rundown hotel in Chicago 1938, Blues in the Night was conceived and originally directed by Sheldon Epps. It weaves a breadth of stories defined through twenty-six classic songs that cover the range of the quintessential American art form. The show takes its title from the Academy Award-Nominated blues standard by Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer. The first act features lush big band numbers like “Am I Blue?”, made famous by Eddie Cochran and Ray Charles, and “I Gotta Right to Sing the Blues”, a Billie Holiday standard. It also features raunchy tunes like “Rough and Ready Man” and “Reckless Blues”, favorites of Alberta Hunter and Bessie Smith. The soulful voices of Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James and Nina Simone can be heard in the second act’s heartfelt torch songs like “These Foolish Things (Remind Me of You)” and “Willow Weep for Me”.
