Creative Cauldron is excited to announce its open call for submissions for of our Bold New Voices Musical Theater Festival to be held from April 27th through May 6th, 2020. The goal of the festival is aimed at supporting musical theater works by women and women-identifying writers and composers. We are looking for new and innovative theater that centralizes the gaze around gender-related experiences. We are interested in producing new shows where more than 50% of the people involved are women. Queer women and women of color are openly welcome and encouraged to submit.
Three to five new works will be selected at the end of the submission window and these works will receive support from seasoned writers and directors. Additionally, chosen finalists will have their work workshopped and staged by professional actors and musicians throughout the festival run. All works selected will receive a $500 stipend for travel expenses. One final musical will be chosen by our resident artistic team at the end of the festival to have a fully funded production staged as part of Creative Cauldron’s 2020-2021 season.

Before submitting your application, please review our eligibility requirements listed below
- Previously produced productions are okay but only those that are limited to:
- Staged reading
- School/university production
- Play development festival
- A development festival production is defined as a production with minimal production elements, played fewer than 10 performances for audiences of 99 persons or less, and that producers did not solicit media reviews.
- We seek work that has a total of no more than six actors (doubling okay)
- All submission material must be emailed as one PDF document to: info@creativecauldron.org
Please make sure you include the following information with your submission:
1. Script: Please follow these steps as you format your submission draft:
- Remove your name and contact information from your script. All submissions are read blind, and we appreciate your help readying these materials for our readers.
- If applicable, remove your agent or representative’s name and contact information as well.
- Be sure that your script includes page numbers.
- Include a character breakdown inclusive of age and gender. Limit the number of actors to six (doubling is okay).
- Upload your script as a single PDF file. Please name this PDF file after the title of your play.
3. Biographical statement/including synopsis
- One-page synopsis including history of production
- Describe any previous productions of your play. Previously produced means:
- Staged reading
- School/university production
- Fringe Festival (as defined above)
- This should detail your goals for the future development of the piece, and, specifically, what you hope to accomplish at the summer 2020 festival.
- Please do not include your name or contact information, as this will be shared with our readers.
- Please see below for the application page which should include your contact information, and, if applicable, your agent or representation’s contact information as well. If you are submitting a play with another writer, you will be asked to list your collaborator’s information here. If you are adapting a work that is not in the public domain, please email proof of your permission to adapt the work with your submission.
- This fee is PAYABLE ON LINE (choose submission fee from the "Door Retail Sale" dropdown) or by check.
- If paying by check, please make it out to “Creative Cauldron Submissions” and include “TITLE OF YOUR PLAY” in the memo line.
