Falls Church, VA – Closing out the 2024–25 season, Creative Cauldron will present a professional production of Disney’s Aladdin Dual Language Edition/Edición de Lenguaje Dual. Based on the 2011 Tony Award-nominated adaptation, this unique version features the original music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, and updated Spanish lyrics by Walterio Pezqueira. By blending English and Spanish, the musical brings new depth and cultural richness to the beloved rags-to-riches tale. Directed by Artistic Associate Matt Conner, the production features Bharati Soman as Music Director and Stefan Sitting as Choreographer. Sponsored by June & Mike Beyer and Walsh Colucci Lubeley & Walsh, the show runs from May 29 to June 15, 2025. Press Night will be held on Saturday, May 31 at 7:30 PM.
This production will feature a cast of eight professional actors and eleven members of Creative Cauldron’s Musical Theater Training Ensemble, a pre-professional training program composed of middle school and high school aged students. Ensemble members receive master classes in voice, movement, and acting that prepares them for the professional musical theater stage. Ensemble members also receive their first professional acting credit upon joining the cast.
Disney’s Aladdin Dual Language Edition/Edición de Lenguaje Dual was first developed in 2005 after a request to make Disney’s Aladdin JR. accessible to Spanish speakers. Disney hired Los Angeles based playwright José Cruz González to assist with adapting the musical so that English and bilingual audiences could be engaged in the performance. The writers and a group of performers were able to make a dual-language guide-vocal recording of Aladdin DLE. In June 2009, Houston’s Theatre Under the Stars produced the first professional production. Since then, the production has been done professionally around the country including at Casa 0101 Theater in Boyle Heights and TNH Productions in California and the Firehouse Theater in Texas. Disney’s Aladdin DLE was added to the Musical Theatre International show catalog in 2006 for theaters around the world to perform.
