Position Title: Artistic Associate
Type: Part-Time
Rate: $75 Per Hour
Location: Falls Church, VA
Creative Cauldron is seeking a dynamic Bilingual Teaching Artist to facilitate after school drama programs in Title One Schools as part of its “Artes Para Todas” initiative. The ideal candidate will be an experienced drama or dance teacher who is fluent in Spanish. Candidate should have a passion for teaching theater to young people, particularly those who have not had prior opportunities to participate in theater arts. Being able to communicate in Spanish with non-English speaking parents and students is essential.
The Bi-lingual Artistic Associate will develop, implement and teach after school drama workshops (3:45 pm – 5:30 pm) in Falls Church, VA area Title One schools and community sites in a dual language format. Associate will collaborate with administrative staff at the schools and prepare a final showcase at the end of each an eight-week workshop. At one or more schools, the Artistic Associate will develop a bi-lingual folktale including music and dance and prepare it for performance at a school assembly.
Artistic Associate will also participate in Creative Cauldron’s “Viva Los Libros” program at a local Fairfax County library, a pre-literacy initiative offered to families with very young children. Artistic Associate will team with Library staff on book readings and provide creative drama/movement activities inspired by the book.
As an important member of Creative Cauldron’s Artistic Staff, the Artistic Associate will also contribute to on-site educational programs and community outreach. These include Creative Cauldron’s Learning Theater Ensemble, a unique educational program that prepares students for performing in a highly professional production that has a 12-performance run. Working with Creative Cauldron’s Founding Artistic Director, and Resident Composer, Artistic Associate will co-write and co-direct two original adaptations of children’s classics for this program. The scripts will feature Spanish language elements. The Learning Theater Ensemble is anchored by two professional actors and the Associate may also be considered for one of these roles for additional compensation. Artistic Associate will also serve as a professional teaching artist for Creative Cauldron’s Arts Adventure Camp programs in the performing arts.
Compensation: Part time/Salaried. Artist will be compensated based on projects at a rate of $75 per hour for Teaching Artist hours.
