Arts Adventure Camp..... a unique summer day camp!

2005 Arts Adventure Camps, July 11 through 29 and August 1 through 19.

Check out the Arts Adventure Camp Gallery.

A unique summer day camp, Arts Adventure Camp combines performing arts with an exploration of the natural environment.  Daily sessions will excite and engage campers (age 4 through 14) with fun activities in drama, music, dance, visual art, nature studies and  pioneering.  Campers will work in small supportive groups led by dynamic artists and naturalists with a passion for teaching. Arts Adventure Camp is held at Mason District Park, located at 6621 Columbia Pike in Annandale, VA.

In the amphitheater, campers will revel in imaginative play as they build their performing arts skills and learn how to create original performances.  Guest artists will be invited to perform for campers and/or will teach special classes (in cartooning, stage combat, costume design, masks, puppetry etc.)  Out on the trails, campers will be sensitized to the workings of the natural world and work in teams to complete physical and mental challenges.  Each Arts Adventure Camp session will have a guiding theme and will conclude with a performance of an original work created by the campers!

Tales from the Underground
July 10 through July 28

Dig your way down through the earth beneath your feet-and you'll find a world teeming with life that is anything but lowly. Keep descending to the labyrinth of caverns and caves below the surface and you will encounter legendary kingdoms inhabited by all manner of magic folk. In this fascinating session, we’ll explore subterranean mysteries and learn why scientists and storytellers alike find the underground such a captivating place.

Under the World’s Canopy
July 31 through August 18

Over the centuries, trees have provided humankind with shelter, food, and breathable air. They have also provided a fertile habitat for imagination and storytelling. In cultures all over the world, trees are thought of as a source of great power, and are frequently assigned human qualities. Join us under the world's canopy, as we journey through tales of transformation and wonder, seeking wisdom (and a little foolishness) from our ancient friends.
